Question #1:
to her or not to tell her?
Today i found a apartment buyers guide of listings in my brothers(17) car. He said that it was sitting on his windshield one day and he just through it in his car. when i opened it tons of pages were tagged at the top corner. I then got him to spill the beans and he said that he plans on moving to a city (about an hour away from where we live) with his girlfriend(16) when he turns 18. He plans on going to a local engineering school while she dosent go to school at all. Neither of them have jobs and no savings. They both think they can afford it. She is planning on applying at a grocery store and my brother is getting an internship through our high school. Now i am debating weather or not to tell my mom about his plan. She over protective and she doesnt like his gf bc when he met her he started failing all his classes, almost dropped out of school, and started smoking and drinking a little. I know that it probably isnt any of my business but i feel my mom has the right to know, even tho i have a feeling she might get mad at me for telling her and saying that there are somethings she doesnt need to know(this is what she said when i told her my brother was smoking, i personally think just doesnt want to think that and wont except the facts).
But should i tell her or not? i think she should know but i dont want her to get mad at me either. and should i also tell my dad? or say it to one of them and the one parent tell it to another?

Question #2:
how can I make money from my website?
I have an idea to start a website on the little town I live in. Population is around 20,000 people. It will have stuff like announcing when new businesses open up or when one is closing down, See a pothole, or a stop sign that’s obscured by overgrowth – you’d go to my site, post a picture and I’d get it repaired, a trading post where you can buy, sell, barter, local job listings, also a forum where people can do everything from complaining about the lousy customer service at the Pub down the street to glowing adoration of how someone at some business went above and beyond. I’m also going to have a page on fact and stats: square mileage, councilmen contact info, population stats, etc. The Chamber of Commerce has already said they will provide me with info, resources, etc. (they will be the ones that I report the potholes to). I eventually will sell hats and t-shirts, etc. with the website logo on it, but until then I need to figure out how to make money off this website. I’ve heard of Google AdSense and AdvertisSpace.com I’m not quite sure what they do yet but I will check them out. Besides asking for donations, which I'd rather not do, how else can I make money off this site until the hats and t-shirts are sold? I’m kinda starting out with no money.Question #3:
Should I buy a 2003 Honda CR-V or a 2005 Ford Escape or 2005 Mazda Tribute?
I need to buy an SUV for my business. I have a budget of Approximately of under 10K.From searching my local listings, what I could find for that budget are the above cars and Maybe some 2003-2004 Toyota RAV 4.
The question is, reliability wise should I go for the Ford\Mazda newer or stick to an older Honda\Toyotas? mileage is about the same in all the SUVs I am looking at.
Thanks!
Question #4:
How can I get a listing of businesses?
Our company would like to market our products to gift shops, bead shops etc. I would like to get a listing of these companies and preferably their websites and email addresses so we can send them some info.Where can I get these listings? I do want to start with the local ones to first off so we can work out the kinks in our wholesale program but in the long run, it will be across the US. Thanks in advance
Question #5:
How to merge local business listings?
I have a local business and Yahoo has 4 different listings for it, all of which are incorrect. How do I create the correct listing and delete the others? Yahoo does not show anywhere how to do this, that I can tell.Question #6:
why won't businesses hire the unemployed? Read below?
Out-of-work job applicants told unemployed need not applyPrint..Chris Isidore, senior writer, On Wednesday June 16, 2010, 4:26 am EDT
The last thing someone who is unemployed needs to be told is that they shouldn't even apply for the limited number of job openings that are available. But some companies and recruiters are doing just that.
Employment experts say they believe companies are increasingly interested only in applicants who already have a job.
"I think it is more prevalent than it used to be," said Rich Thompson, vice president of learning and performance for Adecco Group North America, the world's largest staffing firm. "I don't have hard numbers, but three out of the last four conversations I've had about openings, this requirement was brought up."
Some job postings include restrictions such as "unemployed candidates will not be considered" or "must be currently employed." Those explicit limitations have occasionally been removed from listings when an employer or recruiter is questioned by the media though.
That's what happened with numerous listings for grocery store managers throughout the Southeast posted by a South Carolina recruiter, Latro Consulting.
After CNNMoney called seeking comments on the listings last week, the restriction against unemployed candidates being considered came down. Latro Consulting refused to comment when contacted.
Sony Ericsson, a global phone manufacturer that was hiring for a new Georgia facility, also removed a similar restriction after local reporters wrote about it. According to reports, a Sony Ericsson spokesperson said that a mistake had been made.
But even if companies don't spell out in a job listing that they won't consider someone who currently doesn't have a job, experts said that unemployed applicants are typically ruled out right off the bat.
"Most executive recruiters won't look at a candidate unless they have a job, even if they don't like to admit to it," said Lisa Chenofsky Singer, a human resources consultant from Millburn, NJ, specializing in media and publishing jobs.
She said when she proposes candidates for openings, the first question she is often asked by a recruiter is if they currently have a job. If the answer is no, she's typically told the unemployed candidate won't be interviewed.
"They think you must have been laid off for performance issues," she said, adding that this is a "myth" in a time of high unemployment.
It is not against the law for companies to exclude the unemployed when trying to fill positions, but Judy Conti, a lobbyist for the National Employment Law Project, said the practice is a bad one.
"Making that kind of automatic cut is senseless; you could be missing out on the best person of all," she said. "There are millions of people who are unemployed through no fault of their own. If an employer feels that the best qualified are the ones already working, they have no appreciation of the crisis we're in right now."
Conti added that firms that hire unemployed job seekers could also benefit from a recently-passed tax break that essentially exempts them from paying the 6.2% of the new hire's wages in Social Security taxes for the rest of this year.
Thompson said he also thinks ruling out the unemployed is a bad idea. But he said that part of the problem is that recruiters and human resource departments are being overwhelmed with applications for any job opening that is posted. So they're looking for any short-cuts to get the list of applicants to consider down to a more manageable size.
"It's a tough process to determine which unemployed applicants were laid off even though they brought value to their company and which ones had performance issues," he said. "I understand the notion. But there's the top x percent of unemployed candidates who are very viable and very valuable. You just have to do the work to find them."

Question #7:
Trying to identify local business owners?
What's the easiest way, besides cold calling each store, to identify business owners if they are not listed in my city's Chamber of Commerce listings?Question #8:
Help! Do you have any creative and inexpensive advertising ideas?
I help run youth theatre camps with a local theatre company, and we're having a real tough time getting kids to sign up this year. Currently, we have all sorts of online advertising (ads we pay for and free listings), we pass out flyers at all the schools that will let us, we have flyers in a few local businesses, and we're even paying people to work for us as recruiters. And we're still getting no one--I don't know what's going on, we've never had a tough time in past years.Anyway, I need more advertising ideas-ones that won't cost a fortune (meaning commercials won't happen). Do you have any clever little ways to advertise for little or no cost?
I was trying to think of some clever ideas, and I thought maybe we could make bookmarks (advertising our camp) and slip them into library books geared towards kids aged for our camps. Would I get into trouble for this? This probably sounds stupid, but we're getting desperate, I've run out of good ideas! Help me!
(PS. I should also mention that the libraries won't let us advertise by putting out flyers because we're not a not-for-profit company. So, I was trying to think of a way around this)
Yes, we do have a website. We also have PPC advertising through google, microsoft, and facebook. (The facebook one is getting really expensive!)
Thomas, I don't understand that website.... If it's called "Add Your Site Free" why do I have to pay? I don't know if that would help much, I guess I should have mentioned that we really just need local advertising.
Question #9:
How do I advertise my business online?
I'm a small business owner and don't have thousands of dollars a month for SEO or online marketing. What is the best way to advertise my business online without breaking the bank? Is there a service or company that can help me with local business listings? Thanks
Reid
Question #10:

Question #12:
How do they, (whoever THEY are) figure that discontinuing White Pages will save trees?
I think we NEED our White Pages!!! I bet they could save 10 times more trees if they discontinued all of the excess yellow page/advertising phone books and enforced a ban on junk/spam mail!!! My small town of 28,000 people has at least 7 phone books. A couple are yellow page/advertising only. The rest are yellow and white page listings. The only one that is accurate is the directory from the local telephone company--Century Link. The others have residential listings that are out of date. I've seen business listings in the yellow pages for stores that closed more than 20 years ago. Problem is, I have to have all 7 books at my house, because not every business advertises in every book. My personal residential listing for my land line isn't in every book. I often have to hunt through 2-7 books to find what I'm looking for. Format is different in each book. A business may list in the white pages and yellow pages of one book, or only the business section or only the white page section of the other books. I'd like to see just ONE book for my area--a combination yellow/white page book. That would eliminate 6 extra books. That would save a LOT of trees--more than eliminating white pages all together. Metropolitan areas would have different needs, but they could probably cut down on books, too. It's all about the advertising. My monthly land line bill includes a fee for publication of my listing in the white pages. I want that to continue. GET RID OF JUNK MAIL--create legislation that regulates and ACTUALLY ENFORCES IT. Just last week, I received two hefty envelopes from a local cable/dish company trying to sell me their services. They called me twice on the phone. I have no relationship with this company, and am on both the state and federal "no call list." At one time, I also went on an "anti spam-junk mail" type list to try and stop some of the junk mail I get. It's ANNOYING! I have to recycle it--that takes time out of my day, and wastes heat opening up the door to bring it in, take it out to the recycling bin, and come back in the house. Get rid of the junk mail, get rid of the multiple junk phone books. Let's just have what is necessary, and make it accurate. We'd save a BILLIONS more trees if we knocked of the foolishness h crumby phone books and junk mail instead of the white pages, which are still necessary. I LOVE the TREES- the MORE, the BETTER! Your opinions and support, PLEASE!Question #13:
What's a unique catchy business name / title?
I am starting a small classified/listings group for local artists/musicians/creatives to post their projects, exhibitions, things they are selling etc. It will be online but also will have a noticeboard in a local arts center, and I aim to eventually start having local meetings for artists to discuss ideas. It is going to be aimed at young artists and students, independent creators doing stuff that's a bit radical or out there, zine-makers or indie musicians etc...I need a catchy and unique name! I'd really like something funny and unusual, for example I love 'Stitch'n'Bitch' (a name for knitting group meet-ups), 'DIY or Die' (independent artists doing it for themselves), 'Skillshare'... or maybe a pun on a famous phrase or title. I was looking at roller derby titles and they have some really great puns, 'Night of the Rolling Dead', 'War of the Wheels' etc! They are funny and memorable, and that's what I'm after!
I need something that suggests the following: creativity, art, listings, projects, call outs, classifieds, community, share, connections.
Also maybe it could be a pun on the idea of a traditional style community noticeboard, the kind you find in libraries etc.
Any ideas??
Question #14:
Why has Yahoo dropped my website from its search engine/directory results?
My website always ranked on page 1 of Yahoo in keyword searches and in some cases it was in the no. 2 spot. I also had a high ranking on Yahoo local. I just discovered that my website has been eliminated in the last week or two from both Yahoo search results and Yahoo local business listings. Why?My website always ranked on the first page in Yahoo Search with the top keywords for my business. For the most popular keyword, I was no. 2. I also had a high ranking on Yahoo local. But, I recently discovered that sometime in the last week or two, my website ranking just did not drop, my website has been eliminated in Yahoo Search keyword queries and has been eliminated from Yahoo local business listings. My title, description and keyword meta tags all are appropriate to my business, are found in my web pages, and are like my top competitors. I have not keyword stuffed. So, why the major diss from Yahoo?
Question #15:
About canceling Yahoo Local Listings?
My business is closed. I have been paying for a yahoo service I no longer need, an enhanced marketing feature called "local." I have called yahoo to stop and they referred me to 866-924-6676. That number refers me to 800-761-4783, which in turn goes back to the 866 #. I can't cancel my yahoo wallet, since it's signed up for a service. The screen has a cancel button, which takes you to an edit screen with no cancelation options. I am in a cycle of hell and can't stop the billing. Does anyone have a friend at yahoo? The regular operators can't help, as it's an outside company. The phone lines feed into each other and eventually disconnect. The regular humans at yahoo say it's an outside company and they can't do anything.

something like this..
In order to allow Google to display ads on your domains, you'll need to modify some settings at your domain registrar. This is necessary to ensure ads show up correctly on your domain.
What is the problem???
Question #18:
How much would it cost to build a database for my website?
I am starting a website that focuses on the auto industry. Basically what I want to do is have a website where you can search for car dealerships, mechanics, parts suppliers, junk yards, industry news...and all associated vehicle products and services by any combination of variables such as business name / vehicle types / city / state / zip code etc. Initially, the database will have about 120,000 - 150,000 searchable listings.I also need the site designed with some features like a "My Account" Zone that can personalize content that is displayed on the site. Have the ability to allow clients add their business to local listings in one or more categories for a fee and to "feature" their website within the listings with features such as higher ad display, highlighted ads, website links, maps etc.
Can anyone give me "ballpark" estimate for what a design firm may charge me for these services?
I don't want to do it myself....I have other aspects of the business to focus on. Also, the lowest price isn't my main concern. I want a competent firm with a fair price. (I could get a college kid to design it for cheap, but "cheap" isn't always the best thing) I want to know a ballpark so that when I approach these firms, I have a realistic idea if their price is fair. (Right now, if a design firm told me 80K or 100K, I would believe them due to lack of knowledge.
