Answer #1:

I don't know of any Chinese or Asian people who hate America.

Answer #2:

Goes back to the post WW2 struggle of capitalist societies pitted against communism. Americans don't trust the Chinese and Chinese don't trust Americans.

That being said, this is a new century and things aren't so black and white. Our only way forward is to learn to work together as a global community.

But this will begin with China taking on the responsibility of being a moral leader for the world. Until China improves it's human rights record, it makes it difficult to build trust and understanding.

Answer #3:

The Chinese actually have the U.S. backed up into a corner. They have far more advanced technology than we do, they can hack into our systems and we pretty much HAVE to purchase from them.

I always hated when I'd talk to people from other countries and they would just start bashing me because our President was Bush at the time. We really don't get to pick who our President is going to be. A lot of Americans believe the polls are rigged. It's not an easy job, running a country. But the U.S. spends a lot and wastes even more. We waste a lot of water, electricity and food. We take advantage of what we have, because we have it. I'm not saying that every person in America is a wasteful person. There are a lot of great people in this country that care about the Earth's animals and the Earth itself. But no matter where you live, there will always be someone who will waste something that could have been saved.

I don't agree with a lot of what has been going on these past years, but I still love myself and my country. We have progressed so much, and the big cities and rural areas are all beautiful. People judge us and call us arrogant and ignorant. Some of us are, but as a whole, we are all individual people with different characteristics. I don't think people should be looking down on us, when most of what goes on here isn't up to us and we don't have control over it. Our country is run FOR us, not BY us.

Answer #4:

I suppose it's largely misconceptions on everyone's part. For example, I got a letter from a penpal in Japan once about how she was amazed that I had teeth because all Americans drink is Coca-cola. If these simple perceptions are so deeply ingrained they become detrimental prejudices that develop in a culture.

Also, it is not just a matter of "West" vs. "East". It is a matter of people confusing a country's governmental policies with the lives of its actual citizens. Every individual is usually not in accord with what actions their government is taking. For example, the long-held perception that the French hate Americans. Generally, this boils down to governments disagreeing, not the people. Unless the people are from Paris, I'm told, that's just a different story though.

Lumping Americans, Aussies, and Brits into one Western group is true to some degree but each is by far a difference culture and lumping them together is a defense mechanism against change.

Answer #5:

i've only ran up against their bad attitude in Chinese restaurants. they think Americans, even though we are 6" taller than them, think we eat too much. i put it down as jealousy. I say, "then, get yourself back to hong kong where it is cheaper...and dumb weirdo, how do you explain the boat fare to get there?" they need told off because they are jealous. i always do my part.
